Veterinary Acupuncture for pets from Winnetka Illinois
Can Your Pet Benefit from Acupuncture?
Since 1959
Providing High Quality Veterinary Care to Winnetka Illinois Pets.
Terry Animal Hospital is one of the few animal hospitals offering pet acupuncture in the Winnetka Illinois area. Acupuncture is a treatment method used in conjunction to traditional veterinary medicine. For more than 3,000 years acupuncture has been used as a means of stimulating specific points on the body to release neurotransmitters such as beta-endorphins and serotonin. Acupuncture has been found to reduce pain associated with hip dysplasia, ligament injuries and arthritic conditions. Can also reduce seizure duration and frequency and lessen effects of allergies. How does Acupuncture Work?
The process of administering acupuncture involves inserting tiny needles into the skin. This is done to initiate change in the soft tissue. This process results in stimulation of the nervous system and can lead to an increase in circulation, a decrease in muscle spasm and the release of natural chemicals and hormones. This is a very safe procedure and allows the body of your pet to treat itself.
WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?
Acupuncture can be used to treat pain, improve nerve function, increase energy levels and appetite, as well as address other medical issues. It is often used for patients with musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, spinal disease and hip dysplasia. Acupuncture is also used for treating neurologic issues secondary to muscle pain, trauma, surgery, spondylosis or intervertebral disc disease.
IS ACUPUNCTURE PAINFUL FOR THE ANIMAL?
Most of the time the acupuncture needles are placed without any reaction from the animal. Many times your pet may relax enough during the treatment to even fall asleep.
