Pet Microchipping

Pet Microchipping Evanston Illinois

Terry Animal Hospital proudly offers microchip identification for companion pets in the Evanston Illinois area. The system that we use is the HomeAgain Pet Recovery and Identification System. Learn more about this wonderful technology and how it is used to return lost cats and dogs to their loving families.

What is Microchipping?

Pet microchipping is a system of registering your pet by utilizing a microchip. A microchip is a tiny electronic device which is about the size of a grain of rice. The microchip is implanted beneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. This procedure is quick, easy and as painless as a vaccination.

How Does It Work?

Each implanted microchip has a unique number associated with it. This number, along with the owners information are added to a national registry. The good news is, the majority of veterinarians and animal shelters have the electronic scanners on hand that are used for detecting and reading the implanted microchips. In the even that your pet is found, the microchip will be scanned and the registry will contact you.

Did You Know.

One in three pets will go missing during its lifetime. Without identification, 90% of lost pets never return home. Over 6 million pets enter shelters each year.

Almost all humane organizations (such as animal hospitals, veterinary practices and animal shelters) have scanners that read microchip IDs. HomeAgain Pet Recovery & ID System reports they recover 10,000 lost pets each month and have helped more than 2 million lost pets return home.
